Much of North Dakota’s riding takes place in the Badlands around Medora. The South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park has more than 80 miles of marked horse trails, and the Maah Daah Hey Trail, open to horses, winds across the Little Missouri National Grassland. The Turtle Mountains near the Canadian border and the Sheyenne National Grassland in the southeast have more trails, and guided trail rides and ranch vacations are typical.
