What changes the price

  • Length. The price rises with time in the saddle, but not in proportion: a typical full-day ride ($400) costs about four times a typical one-hour ride ($95). It varies a lot from one business to the next: among the 10 that publish both prices, a full day costs 1.7 to 7.7 times their one-hour ride.
  • Group or private. Private rides cost more, and several outfitters charge a flat price per group for a private guide.
  • Meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner rides include a meal and cost more than a plain ride of the same length.
  • Season. Some businesses change their rates during the season, with higher prices in peak summer weeks.

Extra costs to plan for

Gratuities for guides and wranglers are customary, and some businesses add them to the bill. Ranch stays often add taxes and a service fee on top of the base rate. Pack trips may not include fishing licenses or park entry. Each listing shows the details the business publishes.
